Celebrating the Red Rock Job Corps Penn Foster Graduates

Posted by Jake Sotir on March 28, 2019

On March 20, 2019, yet another successful class of Penn Foster graduates walked the stage to receive their high school diplomas at Red Rock Job Corps in Lopez, PA. These students worked tirelessly over the course of several months to finally realize their goal and take a meaningful step toward creating better lives for themselves.

Located on a converted Air Force base in the mountains of Pennsylvania, Red Rock Job Corps is home to over 100 students ages 16-24 who have committed themselves to improving their lives by furthering their education. At Red Rock, they take classes to both pursue a high school diploma/equivalent and acquire trade skills of their choosing. Trades that students may elect to pursue include Office Administration, Auto Tech, Carpentry, and more.

The five Penn Foster students to receive their diplomas in this class of graduates were Kyeve Malette, Destiny Thomas, Tyrell Roberts, Cordell McIlwain, and Destiny Alston.

It was an honor to be present for the ceremony and to see all of the students' hard work pay off. The look of joy on the faces of each graduate and their families as they crossed the stage made it abundantly clear how much this diploma meant to them. This graduation ceremony didn't simply represent another day on the calendar for everyone involved. Instead, it amounted to a final acknowledgement of the months of hard work and dedication that these students spent in pursuit of better futures.

In speaking with the graduates after the ceremony concluded, it was easy to tell that they truly understood the weight of their accomplishments and were incredibly thankful to Red Rock Job Corps and to Penn Foster for helping them move their lives forward in a positive direction. "Without Penn Foster," said Thomas, "I don't think I would be able to be employed anywhere."

After the ceremony, our Penn Foster team had the pleasure of touring the center, stopping into classrooms, speaking with students about their experience, and watching them perform their trades. It was truly an inspiring experience to meet the students and their families, and to see them in action as they continued to invest in their own learning and development.

Congrats to all of the March 2019 graduates of Red Rock Job Corps, and we can't wait to see what the next class accomplishes!
