SCRANTON, PA (January 11, 2016) — Penn Foster High School, a self-paced, affordable provider of a regionally and nationally accredited high school diploma, graduated more than 25,000 students in calendar year 2015. This marked an annual record for the school and a 20% increase from last year’s total of more than 20,000, as announced today by Frank Britt, CEO of Penn Foster.
Licensed by the Pennsylvania State Board of Private Licensed Schools, Penn Foster High School provides a high school diploma program which offers concentrations in a number of career areas to students who have not been successfully served by the traditional high school model.
"While it’s gratifying to see that our country’s over-all high school graduation rate has stabilized and is inching upward from the 80% range, that still means hundreds of thousands of young people are entering adulthood without a critical component on their resume – a high school diploma,” said Britt. "We are honored to offer a diploma program that presents affordable options at scale to meet the career advancement needs of a diverse, nationwide student population."
Penn Foster’s survey of its graduates reveals a 98% “overall satisfaction” with the flexible diploma program, with the same percentage saying “they achieved the goals they set out for.” Nearly as many Penn Foster High School graduates (93%) “felt their studies enhanced work performance/provided advancement,” and 92% affirmed that “their employers felt their training was beneficial.”
Penn Foster's second consecutive record-breaking year can be attributed in part to the expansion of key partnerships with organizations such as Job Corps, an alliance which accounts for 8,500 or more than a third of Penn Foster’s 2015 graduates. In addition, at least 25 colleges and career schools across the country offer Penn Foster's High School Completion program. Through these partnerships, students who earn their high school diploma through the blended learning environment on partner campuses, have a direct pathway to enroll in the sponsor school. The program has proven successful, with 70% of these students enrolling in partner schools in 2015.
Quick-serve restaurants are beginning to offer High School Completion programs to their hourly employees who were unable to complete a traditional high school program. Ed Brett, EVP of Human Resources for Church’s Chicken shared, “by offering the Penn Foster High School Completion program, we were able to increase the number of people we have eligible for manager positions. That aside, the real thing is just watching people build their confidence and be excited about the fact that something they had never had the chance to do, they’re now able to do it.”
As member of America's Promise Alliance since 2014, Penn Foster supports the work of the GradNation campaign, a large and growing movement of dedicated individuals, organizations and communities working together to increase graduation rates in the United States. GradNation's goal is to raise the national high school graduation rate to 90% by 2020.
