Penn Foster Announces Pharmacy Tech Advisory Council, Names Six Members

Creation of Advisory Council by Penn Foster Career School Signals Intent to Formalize Role of Industry Experts in Pharmacy Technician Program Design.

SCRANTON, PA (March 30, 2016) — Penn Foster Career School, a provider of diploma and certificate programs designed to augment learners’ skills to increase employability for in-demand fields, today named six industry experts as members of the school’s Pharmacy Technician Advisory Council. The creation of this Advisory Council signals the school’s intent to formalize the role of industry experts in the design of its Pharmacy Technician program to meet ever-evolving requirements in this profession. The members of the Penn Foster Pharmacy Technician Advisory Council are: 

  • Julie Beccarelli, CPhT, Telepharmacy Support Specialist Manager, PipelineRx;
  • Christine Cline-Dahlman, BFA, CPhT, Education Program Coordinator, The Institute for Wellness and Education;
  • Kristy Malacos, MS, CPhT, Pharmacy Administrator, Magruder Hospital – Pharmacy Systems, Inc.;
  • Pam Piotrowski, RPh, MBA, Senior Director, Quality Improvement, Health and Wellness and Program Director, Technician Training, Walmart Stores, Inc.;
  • Michael E. Romesburg, Lead Manager, Workforce Initiatives Department, CVS Health; and
  • Susan Sincavage, PharmD, MBA, BCPS, CDE, CPT, Clinical Pharmacist, US Department of Veterans Affairs, Owner, Be Well, Live Well LLC; Pharmacist, Walgreens

“From day one, our Pharmacy Technician Career Diploma program has been designed to help students pursue a career as a Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT),” said Dara Warn, Chief Outcomes Officer for Penn Foster Career School. “In creating this inaugural Advisory Council, we are demonstrating our continuing commitment to hands-on training and relevant coursework, as we will now be able to tap into some of the best minds in the pharmacy sector to advise us on how to make our program even better and further align our program to employers’ hiring needs.”

The Penn Foster Pharmacy Technician program has grown rapidly in recent years, with over 3,000 active students taking advantage of the online, self-paced program. Tuition for the Penn Foster Career School’s program includes a voucher for the PTCE practice test and sponsorship for the PTCE itself, as well as hands-on training through externships with CVS/pharmacy and Walgreens.

There are more than 350,000 pharmacy technician jobs in the United States, and employment in this fast-growing healthcare career is expected to increase 9% between now and 2024. Penn Foster Career School graduates are employed with companies such as: Walgreens, CVS/pharmacy and many local pharmacies, according to the school’s 2015 Graduate Survey.

About the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB)
The Pharmacy Technician Certification Board, creator of the PTCE, was established 20 years ago by the American Pharmacists Association (APhA), American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP), Illinois Council of Health-System Pharmacists, and Michigan Pharmacists Association. In 2001, PTCB expanded its Board of Governors to include the National Association of Boards of Pharmacy (NABP).
