Job Corps’ largest educational provider discussed how students can earn postsecondary credit

SCRANTON, PA, (December 1, 2016) — Penn Foster, a leading skills solutions organization focused on providing competencies, credentials, career pathways and employment matching for today's evolving workforce, announced its participation in the National Job Corps Association (NJCA) webinar series. Hosted by the NJCA, the webinar focused on how Job Corps centers can seamlessly offer career certificate and diploma programs and ACE reviewed college courses.

Workforce readiness statistics project a growing need for a more educated workforce in the coming years. By 2020, two out of every three jobs will require some postsecondary education, and at the current rate, the US will have a gap of five million workers with postsecondary credentials and training.¹ The webinar addressed the need for skilled candidates for today’s job market, why it’s important to offer post-secondary courses and career pathways for Job Corps students in particular, and how individual Job Corps centers can offer programs for in-demand skilled trades on center.

“Penn Foster was very enthusiastic to partner with the NJCA for this webinar, because we are in lock-step with one another on providing education options and outcomes for their young people,” said Erik Hensley, Manager Director Workforce and Government, Penn Foster. “We work closely with the NJCA, helping them offer stackable credentials for their students. We’re proud to continue giving a hand up, via education, to this segment of the population. It truly is a win-win situation.”

Penn Foster and Job Corps have a longstanding, complementary partnership in which Penn Foster has provided the educational components for their students, who are typically out of school young adults between 16-24 years of age. Students can take a variety of Penn Foster high school, career school and ACE reviewed college courses while enrolled in a Job Corps training program.
