Industry experts often talk about “upskilling” and workforce development, but the little-known practice of “outskilling” is gaining ground in the modern automated workplace.
With employers recognizing that layoffs will happen because of automation - and even having an idea of when they’ll happen - training dedicated workers to move on to their next best careers when it happens is a strategic brand move. In fact, “in a world where social media is weaponized,” said Penn Foster’s Frank Britt, “it’s not plausible to not do something about it.”
