SCRANTON, PA, (November 17, 2016) — Penn Foster High School, one of the largest high schools in the nation and provider of a regionally and nationally accredited high school diploma, today launched nine career elective concentrations that can help Penn Foster High School students become more prepared and knowledgeable by offering them career-focused electives and training alongside their regionally and nationally accredited high school diploma program.
Career Pathways are available to students direct through Penn Foster High School and through partners such as workforce investment boards, Job Corps, YouthBuild, career schools and employers who work with Opportunity Youth and adult learners alike.
The nine new Career Pathway options are focused on high-opportunity career fields¹ and consist of: Carpentry; Electrical Contractor; Plumbing; General Health Care; Information Technology; Culinary Arts Professional; Automotive Repair Technician; Childcare Professional; and Pharmacy Technician. In addition, college preparation is also a pathway option. Once a student successfully completes both high school diploma requirements and chosen Career Pathways electives, she or he will earn an accredited high school diploma plus a career concentration certificate. Penn Foster High School is regionally accredited for grades 9 through adult by the Commission on Secondary Schools of the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools, and is nationally accredited by AdvancED and by the Distance Education Accrediting Commission (DEAC).
“We are continually looking for ways to connect our students with careers and with employers,” said Dara Warn, Chief Outcomes Officer, Penn Foster. “Career Pathways gives students early insight into what a career in their chosen field looks like, and allows them to build career-specific skills and competencies—and a certificate of completion—that can set them apart when looking for a job, or when continuing on to postsecondary education. It’s another way we and our partners can help prepare individuals for today’s evolving workforce.”
Similar to Penn Foster’s High School Diploma program, the Career Pathways electives are designed for students who need a flexible means to earn a credential. Students take courses online and work at their own pace, allowing them to complete their courses while managing other responsibilities. Penn Foster High School also offers Career Pathways in a blended learning environment. Once students receive their high school diploma and career concentration certificate, they can use it to advance their training in a chosen field or pursue further education. Penn Foster High School is one of the largest schools in the nation, with 60,000 active students enrolling on an ongoing basis and 30,000 graduates each year.
